The Production

An immersive theatre tour through the prop store of the Stadttheater Gießen.

Some places are full of stories. The prop store of the Stadttheater Gießen is one of them. What begins as a guided tour becomes a journey — performative, interactive, audiovisual. You hear voices, follow traces, enter rooms where past and present collapse into one another. Sometimes you are asked. Sometimes you decide. Sometimes you simply listen.

In small groups, you set out on a guided, performative theatre tour through hidden rooms. What begins as a glimpse behind the scenes becomes an immersive, audiovisual experience: costumes whisper, furniture remembers, props talk back. The prop store is alive.

For the prop store is an archive of memories. Costumes, furniture and props all lead a life of their own here. Props are not mute objects but questioning beings: they remember, contradict, interfere and ask existential questions. Nothing stays silent.

In small groups, you follow a director whose premiere is drawing closer and who is slowly losing control. She is searching for the perfect objects for her production — if such a thing even exists in this wilful prop store. But the things refuse to play along. They have quirks, memories, a will of their own. They cannot simply be chosen. They want to be heard.

Enter the prop store of the city theatre — a place where nothing stands still and nothing keeps quiet. A theatre experience between guided tour and fiction, play and reality.
